I have always had a strong connection with the art world, even as a small child. The idea of creating work that somebody would find worthy has been a life-long dream. My adult life has been a dichotomy of sorts---I have always been torn between the calling to teach my art skills to others, and the pull of being a self-producing artist. After nearly twelve years of teaching art at the high school level, I now find myself embarking on a new journey into the world of producing art for the public. To date I have had two showings of my artwork in commercial businesses, one in Everett, and one in Seattle.
I have experimented with nearly every media available, but find my greatest satisfaction with dry pastel. Although often time-consuming, dry pastel allows me to create a variety of color layers that brings a depth to the picture that is difficult to achieve with other media.
I am inspired by the work of those who put great effort into their artwork, all the way from the masters like Michelangelo to the special needs student trying his best to produce a work of art he can be proud of.
As an artist I've always been fascinated by the intricacies of cast light and how it affects the appearance of objects. Whether it be the subtle change of pale yellow to a bright orange or the way light sparkles in a person's eyes, or even something as simple as the shadow glasses make as they sit on a person's face, I am drawn to lighting. By focusing on a section of a face in my pictures, I'm able to draw the viewer's attention to the depth of light and shadow.
